BRATISLAVA, Slovakia—The Slovak National Theatre saw the triumphant performance of the Chinese Spectacular last night in Bratislava. The audience was on its feet. Divine Performing Arts presented classical Chinese dance, music, and ancient legends to a sold-out crowd.
Daniela Hrivnakova, the assistant director of transit in Bratislava, and her daughter Katarina Hrivnakova, attended the show and raved about it.
‘The show was wonderful,” Ms. Hrivnakova said, ‘Especially for me, the drums, that was excellent."
"All the show was nice, really nice, colorful.” She could not praise the Chinese drums enough: ‘I love it!"
"I heard about it on the radio, and when I heard it, I decided to come here because I like new and different cultures.”
Katarina, Ms. Hrivnakova’s daughter, echoed the enthusiasm that rang through the night: "I thought the show was amazing ... I thought it was really amazing, especially the drums, like my mother said."
The Epoch Times spoke with a businesswoman from Bratislava, Ms. Michalkova, who was taken with the show. “Very nice. I mean the colors of these costumes,” she said, “It was wonderful, very nice.”
“I like the Mongolian [Bowl] dance and also the dance of the waves with the water [“Nymphs of the Sea”] in the beginning.” She said she enjoyed not only those but “many pieces.”
Divine Performing Arts uses three-dimensional, projected backdrops to depict the settings of ancient China, present-day China, and mythical landscapes. “I think it is very nice, because the colors of the film [the projected background] are the same as the costumes’ colors. It is very nice. I mean choreography and also the coordination of colors. It is very nice, I like it.”
Divine Performing Arts is currently on an international tour that includes 220 shows in over 60 cities in 14 countries, and expects to reach a total live audience of about 650,000.
After Bratislava, the Spectacular will carry on to Prague for more shows next week. A total of 35 shows will be seen in 14 European countries.
