'It's more than spectacular!' Says Councillor for Campbelltown City Council

ADELAIDE, Australia—Margaret Nicol, Councillor in George Ward for Campbelltown City Council, said she was sure everybody who saw Chinese Spectacular in Adelaide this year would spread the word about how fantastic it is.

"It is absolutely fantastic," Ms Nicol said during the interval of Adelaide's opening performance on Monday night. "And you say that it's spectacular; it's more than spectacular!

"I think it would be great if you could make a regular appearance here in Adelaide. I'm sure everybody here will go and tell everybody they know, and say how fantastic [it was].

"So when you come another time, maybe you can be here for more than three shows."

Ms Nicol said she most liked the 'Nymphs of the Sea'. "They are all very very good in their own right," she said, "but I think I like the sea nymphs."

"I think the way they've used the fabrics, you know with the extended sleeves and that scene where the fabric was attached to the fans, when the curtains went up with that, it was just like the shimmering waters of the ocean. It was fantastic!"

However, she liked other pieces as well. "I liked the one with the lady in the moon ['Lady of the Moon']. She went off the stage, but in the backdrop she floats off into the moon. It's so synchronised. So it must have taken lots of time and effort and choreography for everyone to do their parts and put it together.

"And the drums as well, you know so energetic! Excellent!

"And the backdrops as well. And all the music and then you know the soprano and the baritone, I thought that was good in between the dancing."

Ms Nicol said she didn't always need the explanations before each performance, but at times it was helpful. "Oh yes it's easy to follow, but it's just like watching any dance," she said.

"You can pick out the serious parts and who's doing what and that type of thing you know, you don't really need to have it spelt out for you.

"But of course when the baritone and soprano were there, you had the English translation as well which was good."
