HAMBURG—Banker Dieter Luegering from Hamburg was in the audience during the Chinese Spectacular show at the Theater at the Harbor. He said, "I found the little bit of history that was brought out in the scenes rather interesting. The colorful costumes and the many happy faces, and yet, there is also a lot of sorrow."
"Yes, the theme is very difficult, but it was brought very well to the public. Especially beautiful are the dancers. They are delicate and move easily. It is as if they are gliding over the stage. I found this exceptionally beautiful."
The 'Mongolian Bowl Dance' was his favorite piece, and he also enjoyed the two drumming acts.
He said he loved what he experienced, while he also found the performance thought provoking. He works for a well-known bank that has a branch in Shanghai. Mr. Luegering shared his thoughts and impressions with The Epoch Times after the last curtain:
ET: Did you have anything to do with China or with the themes in today's show?
DL: "I have some job-related association with China, on-and-off. My bank has good relation with China and a branch in Shanghai… This bank is quite involved in exports and has employed Chinese people for quite some time."
ET: Did you learn a little bit more about Chinese culture?
DL: A little -- certainly! Well, about the Chinese culture -- that is more or less past history. Today it is totally different. I wanted to be surprised as to which China I would see -- today's China or China of the past.
ET: Have you been on a business trip to China?
DL: I have not traveled to China on a business trip or as a tourist.
ET: Today, more and more companies and people
DL: Yes, certainly, the Chinese economy is opening up more and more. Hopefully, this continues to be the case, and also that there are political changes. At the moment we experience a very critical phase in China. A democrat has to deeply ponder on the present situation, especially if it comes to the treatment of Tibetans. I find this awful and anti-humanity.
Especially, the pictures one saw all day long on media channels are not official photos that were released by the Chinese, but photos taken clandestinely. They show a lot of violence against people who live peacefully. China has to do much, can do much, and if it does much, the West will accept them with open arms. Otherwise, I personally take great issue, especially if it comes to exports from China. When it comes to trade, and then the Olympics -- one can't open up one side and on the other side violate human rights -- something like this is unacceptable.
ET: Mr. Lügering, thank you very much for talking to us.
