MELBOURNE, Australia—A Ukranian music professor said the Chinese Spectacular was an amazing view at China's 5000-year history.

Attending the show on the opening night in Melbourne, Nina Ponamorenko praised the "amazing" culture portrayed in the show.

"It was amazing to see the 5000-year history. What an amazing culture, very deep. These people are incredible in their culture and art. I am absolutely enchanted by this show!"

She was particularly moved by the "Risen Lotus Flower" dance, depicting the persecution of three Falun Gong practitioners in China.

"I was especially shaken by that dance about the persecution of Falun Gong, it was so close to the cultural revolution ... It was absolutely grandiose ... the way it was shown and how this spirit and mentality elevated these women, the way they rose up and came back to life," said Mrs. Ponamorenko of the dance.

Originally coming from Lvov—the biggest city in western Ukraine—Mrs. Panamorenko, 67-years old, moved to Melbourne in 1999. She teaches choir and gives vocal lessons in the local Ukranian community. Some of her well known students included Ivan Popovich and Nicola Oblich—both are acclaimed singers in the Ukraine.
