Around 1985 the Mayor of Taipei, Taiwan, invited him to bring a delegation of mayors to visit Taipei. It was the first of many trips.

Mayor Ford has worked for friendship, sister-city relationships, trade and recognition for Taiwan ever since. The state of Alabama and the country of Taiwan are formally sister states, he told us. Mayor Ford now represents the World Conference of Mayors and has traveled to Asia many times.

"This is such a great opportunity for America so they can see the rich culture, history, and splendid performance displayed in this great spectacular production. It highlights the richness of the Chinese culture. It is a shining opportunity for the artists to demonstrate their talents and gifted ability to perform and inspire people through their performances.

After the show, Mayor Ford said: "This was even greater than I had anticipated, the skill and the talent. Those men and women are some of the greatest dancers and entertainers that I've ever seen. The costumes were spectacular. The setting was so serene and beautiful. The choreography was superb.

"I hope all of America can be exposed to this wonderful production. Splendid! A+. Tremendous! Powerful! Elegant! Suburb! Spectacular!"
