Proclamation by Jesse White, Illinois Secretary of State
WHEREAS, the Chinese New Year is the most important and celebrated day of the year for Chinese communities throughout the world; and
WHEREAS, the 2007 Chinese New Year Spectacular in Chicago offers a great way to celebrate this momentous occasion while showcasing the beauty and rich heritage of the Chinese culture; and
WHEREAS, the 2007 Chinese New Year Spectacular will span 28 major cities in Europe, Asia, Australia and North America with an expected live audience of 150,000 worldwide; and
WHEREAS, the 2007 Chinese New Year Spectacular will help to unify all people interested in Chinese culture while promoting cross-cultural understanding between the East and West; and
WHEREAS, this prestigious event will be held in Chicago on March 3, 2007 and hosted by Sound of Hope Radio, a nonprofit organization dedicated to facilitating cultural communications, enriching the lives of the public and promoting racial harmony:
THEREFORE, I, Jesse White, Secretary of State, officially call upon the people of Illinois to observe the 2007 Chinese New Year and to attend the 2007 Spectacular. On behalf of the people of Illinois, I offer my deep gratitude for all of your hard work and my best wishes for a very successful program.
