NTDTV Chinese New Year Spectacular Warmly Welcomed at Boston Opera House

(The Epoch Times reporters Yang Tianyi, Bi Ruzong reported on February 12) The 2007 NTDTV Chinese New Year Spectacular started its touring show in Boston on February 10, 2007 at Opera House. This is the second year for NTDTV Chinese New Year Spectacular shows in Boston. Opera House is one of the best theaters in Boston, with its 2,500 seats capacity; it is the place for the classic ballet show “Nutcracker” each year in Boston.

By 1:30pm, the hall of Opera House was full of audiences waiting for the show. A gentleman was disappointed when learning all the tickets were sold out, he continued to ask around if anyone had extra tickets. The show started at 2:15pm, the theater was full, and many people came to the show with the whole family.

After watching the show, a group of veterans sent NTDTV e-mails expressing their gratitude. Veteran Gary Sottile said the show was fantastic, and he enjoyed every single program, another veteran Dee Lawson the show showcased Chinese traditional culture, the background was grand and the costumes were beautiful.

Ms. Yamylex Belis told the reporter that her mother works for the sponsor of the show Hyatt Hotel, and bought tickets for all her family members. She was very impressed by the dance “Statute”, the Buddha gestures made her feel mysterious and touching. She said though the songs were all in Chinese, the host and hostess did a great job explaining them, and the captions helped a lot also.

Miss Walesca Delvalle came to the show with her boyfriend; she told us that she learned about the show from the local TV station 2 program. Ms. Judy Kerkhoff said she and her two Chinese daughters came from Rhode Island with a group of five families that adopted children from China to watch the show; they hoped to help the children experience the true Chinese culture. Eleven years old Daria and eight years old Paige both loved the show.

Mr. Cheng also came from Rhode Island to watch the show; he is an opera fan for dozens of years. Before Mr. Cheng retired, he worked in New York City and watched many Broadway shows. He said he was really proud that a show performed by Chinese people could reach such a high level; his favorite was the drumming at the very end.

Four seniors in Waltham City Nursing Home came to the show with the helps of family, the oldest Sylvia Weiner said she watched all kinds of shows since she was seven, this NTDTV show was one of the best she has ever saw. Tony Sidhu said he was “spellbound” by the show, and the singings by Bai Xue and Jiang Min were “flawless”.

Psychologist Lorna Hochstein brought her two daughters adopted from China to the show. The two little girls were sitting behind the reporter during the show, they kept cheering during the show. Another couple Michael and Lynn Conant also adopted two daughters Abigail and Jenny from China, they came from Topsfield. The three years old daughter was not feeling very well today, but felt all right as soon as the show started.

Ms. Li came from Fuzhou City in China, she came to the show with her parents and daughter, and she said her daughter bought the tickets for them. Ms. Huang is an engineer, she said the background design was very successful, greatly helped the audiences to enjoy the performances.

Boston Opera House agreed NTDTV to leave a drawing on its wall for this show, artists Wang Weixing and Chen Daying spent two days to complete this drawing, performers of the show signed on it. The drawing left the record of the first show by Chinese people in the famous Boston Opera House.

NTDTV Chinese New Year Global Spectacular is hosted by NTDTV; it will tour 29 cities around the globe this year. The two shows in Boston Opera House were performed on February 10 at 2pm and 7:30pm; there will be seven shows at Radio City Music Hall in New York City from February 14 to 17.
