To all those celebrating the Chinese New Year,
It is my pleasure to extend best wishes to the Chinese community for the New Year and the upcoming year of the Rat.
The Chinese New Year is a time to showcase and celebrate the rich cultural heritage of the Chinese community in Canada. Canadians of all backgrounds will also enjoy taking part in celebrations around the country, celebrations which bring us together as a multicultural society and bolster our sense of what it means to be Canadian. Our festivals and cultural events celebrate a legacy and a challenge: to honour the sacrifice and commitment of past generations, while continuing to build strong, inclusive and caring communities. This is also a time to celebrate with friends and family and to share the New Year message of peace and happiness with all.
