SAN DIEGO–On the evening of January 15, the Divine Performing Arts of New York presented its grand debut of the Chinese New Year Spectacular at the California Center for the Arts in Escondido, CA. The audience gave a thunderous round of applause when the curtains closed at the finale.
Michael N. Zhang, Ph.D., president & CEO of Optimer Biotechnology, Inc. and his wife Tessie Che graced the show on the opening night. Tessie Che, PhD, is the senior vice-president & chief operating officer of the company, which mainly produces anti-cancer drugs and antibiotics.
Dr. Zhang said, "The show was great. It was a very high level of performance. The program was nicely arranged and contained some historical [Chinese] stories. It was wonderfully arranged. The show features both traditional Chinese and modern elements. I think it's great. If my granddaughter saw the show, she would definitely be delighted."
Dr. Che related, "The dance was fantastic! The performers are very, very talented. The performance was very exciting! I call it grand-tastic! My favorites are the Tang Court Drummers and the opening dance from heaven, which delivered a fantastic world."
"I like the dance of heavenly maidens very much," said Dr. Zhang. "It was wonderful and presented an ethereal world. The dances I have watched before emphasize techniques, but were not very artistic. This show is wonderfully designed. I feel it is an extremely high level of performance."
Dr. Che added, "The costumes are beautiful and very, very attractive. The performers' movements are perfect and are of very high quality. This is a very good, very, very impressive show. I give it a very high rating."
