NEW YORK—Robert Wilson from Middletown, NJ, an executive at an import/export steamship company, brought his wife and their adopted Chinese daughters to Monday evening's performance of the Chinese New Year Splendor at Radio City Music Hall.
"We came to it because we wanted to learn, for our daughters, more of the culture, which we don't know much about. But I think it's suited for anybody and everyone." When asked about the show, six year old Julia, originally from Sichuan Province shyly stated "It was good." Her favorites were "the girl dancers."
Ten-year-old Gracie, born in Hunan province, said, "It was exciting. I liked the drums and the moves that they did…I also like the colorful dresses."
When asked if he's seen traditional Chinese performances before, Robert said "No, not entirely, not in this fashion. We've seen some of the Chinese acrobats and things like that, but nothing like this. This is the first time we've seen something like this… I thought it was great."
After 15 performances in New York between February 30 and January 9, the Splendor will continue on its tour of over 65 cities worldwide, stopping next in Europe, followed by Japan and Taiwan.
