NEW YORK—Jonathan Rodriguez owns a consulting firm on 57th street in Manhattan for network-based IT solutions, and is also a retired Marine having served in Panama, Somalia, and Iraq during the Desert Storm war. Currently he lives with his wife Lori, in Throgs Neck, Bronx.
When asked his thoughts of the Chinese New Year Splendor , he said that "the drum work at the end was a resounding finish. It was nice. They closed the show! You know, it was really, really nice!"
Mr. Rodriguez, still happy about the previous night's Super Bowl result, resonated with the "male" aspects in the show, "the martial arts aspect of it."
"The athleticism I saw, it was very entertaining. I was wide awake for the whole performance, I enjoyed myself thoroughly, so, you know, they scored! They scored!"
Mr. Rodriguez said he would recommend the Chinese New Year Splendor "to basically anyone, because there is a large cultural element involved ... and you don't have to speak Chinese."
"Especially the dancers with the communist logos on their back—they came and disrupted the whole thing—and how they mentioned that this type of culture is just not readily available in China—which you would never think.
"They kept me entertained. Its very entertaining, very entertaining."
Mrs. Rodriguez, a coordinator at a hospital, had received the tickets from her parents. They had planned to come to Monday evening's performance of the Chinese New Year Splendor , but later were called out of town to Puerto Rico, so they passed on the tickets.
After seeing the show, Mrs. Rodriguez felt the Splendor was "Spectacular! Spectacular! It was great, fabulous."
"I loved the Korean dance with the blue dresses … they were just so beautiful and flowing, and … the water sleeves," she added.
